Two orphan calfs

Two orphan cows have found their way to our ranch...

The little calf on the left was found next to his dying mother, who had prolapsed while giving birth. Only a day old. While rescuing him, a month-old heifer was found in poor weight, so she was also taken to the ranch to get the nourishment her mother was unable to provide her.

It's been hard the past 24 hours, getting the baby calf enough colostrum into his system, and then overcoming anemia and bloat. But he's getting stronger.

We're rooting for these two. All life is precious, bovines included

"High Z" rescued at Mike's Auction this month by AHR, had a full vet exam today.

Dr. Grant of West Coast Equine Hospital came out to address Z's neglected teeth, and give him a lameness exam. It seems poor Z has rope burns on his legs, and though he has some healing bumps, bruises, and sore feet, should otherwise be sound.

Z has lovely ground manners, and a beautiful, lengthy trot! He will be a real gem once he's back to full health, which will take some time. Z came to auction off the high stress environment of the feed lot, so bears many scars of that. We will give him time to heal.

Thanks to Karen, Diane, Janet and Randee, we've raised $225 of the needed $470 to pay off today's farrier bill. If you can help us raise the remaining needed $245, please donate through our website -- http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/donate.html

Today is farrier day!

Clubhouse Rules, along with many of our other rescue horses, are getting pedicures today. Quality farrier work is an essential part of returning these rescues back to full health, especially longer term rehabilitations like Clubhouse.

If you would like to support our rescue work at AHR, please donate today! For our numerous rescues getting shod or trimmed, comes to a sizeable $470.

Can you help? To be able to continue to do the work we do, and responsibly and ethically rehabilitate our rescues, requires us to put the work into these horses they need.

If you can help us pay down today's farrier bill, please donate through our website,http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/donate.html

Charlie

"Charlie" is a 23 year old Thoroughbred mare, rescued from Mike's Auction in early 2013. She is a lovely and pretty girl who gets along well with other horses. We think she was used as a broodmare for many years and dumped when she could no longer produce any babies. She was diagnosed with arthritis in her neck and as such cannot be ridden. Charlie will make a great companion or make your dream come true of retiring a well-deserving horse.

Horses like Charlie -- the abandoned broodmares -- need rescue most of all, but are routinely overlooked for the adorable pony demographic. A demographic that though can certainly benefit from an upgrade in life, do not suffer the high-risk of shipping to slaughter like the "old bay mares." If looking for a companion to a horse of yours, please consider a lovely girl like Charlie to brighten up your herd!

 "Faith" and "Hope,"

Update on "Faith" and "Hope," the grey kidbroke mare with teeth issues and the young emaciated palomino mare, were rescued earlier this month from Cowtown Auction and sent to BITS for their rehabilitation. The two are doing well, and coolest of all, the even more emaciated palomino mare (there were two) was adopted by Marsha! Nice to be able to place a horse into a wonderful private home directly, saving rescue resources.

Faith and Hope will be up for adoption shortly

Luna Adopted!

Luna, registered Thoroughbred "Anearlyeclipse," was rescued last May from a small livestock auction out in the desert. Emaciated and with swollen legs, it appeared she had been heavily match raced, since her last appearance at Los Alamitos racetrack, years before.

Aside from the physical scars Luna wore, there were many emotional ones she bore as well. Cathy P. fostered her through her initial recovery, then Mical took over and worked on healing Luna's emotional scars.

In the end, they fell in love.

Congratulations, Mical and Luna! Our theory is there's no love that can compare to a Thoroughbred mare's

"Mi Gatita" (aka Emily)

"Mi Gatita" (aka Emily), a 5-year-old daughter of Gotham City, is into her second week of being restarted, from the ground up.

Emily was rescued from auction, having been brought there by match racers. Unsurprisingly, this meant she's had trust issues that had to be worked out of. Already, her trusting side is beginning to shine! It's a wonderful transformation, to see such a beauty blossom inside as much as she has on the outside.

Emily, standing at 16.1 hh, is available for adoption as a flashy, sound prospect for the hunter/jumper or dressage arena.

If interested in adopting Emily, fill out our application
