Mare and her injured foal

2/21/2014

Picture
We just got word this mare and her injured foal were found tied up, in the desolate mountains of Santa Clarita, an hour's hike from any discernible landmarks. No water, no shelter. People are monsters.. We are en route to offer assistance

UPDATE
Woman who found him says they weren't tied up, they were wandering loose and appeared tied at first. Either way, AC told us we had to hand the horses back. Owner acknowledges they repeatedly get out. Baby is markedly, increasingly lame. We hope AC thoroughly investigates.

Eisus

Pretty "Eisus" was rescued in October from a Central California auction, alongside "Akin For Moscow," River and High Tide.

Of all four, Eisus has had the toughest time -- but the strongest spirit. An intense battle with laminitis, brought about by the very short feet she came to auction with, caused her to have an extended stay at UC Davis, before finally coming home to Trinity Horse Refuge for her long rehab. So far, Eisus is holding up well and we're very hopeful she'll make a full recovery.

Eisus is one of those rare, beautiful souls, like Bucky, that despite her painful condition, is loving and polite at all times. We're excited to see what Eisus can become, once her feet are in working order.

Thank you Trinity for giving Eisus the care she needs, in such close proximity to UC Davis, and thank you Heather and Hillorie for sponsoring her shavings and hay needs!

Amok for Adoption!

"Amok" is a 16-year-old son of Kentucky Derby winner "Spend A Buck," with earnings of $4.2 million. Amok had a steady four years of racing, earning a far less notable $24,712. This ex-racehorse went on to become a charro horse for some years, before eventually ending up at Lancaster Horse Auction late last year, with a sore back and sorely neglected teeth.

Ironically, his owners that took him to auction, had no clue this stocky boy was in fact a Thoroughbred! We assure the tattoo on his lip is very real, and as hard as it is to believe, he isn't a Quarter Horse. But close!

Amok stands at around 15.3 hh, but with a notably bulky frame. He's begun retraining, and is getting acquainted with the concept of trust. Amok wants to trust, and can be very loving once given a chance. He has a strong aversion to being ridden in a snaffle bit, but rides softly in a curb -- with soft hands. His gaits are smooth and easy to ride.

Amok is available for adoption to an intermediate rider, as an all-around pleasure or trail horse.

If interested in adopting Amok, please fill out our application athttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/

Amok is located in Santa Clarita, CA.

The same day Jessica was adopted, her dam Catherine, aka AQHA mare "Go Little Flurt," was given the all-clear today at West Coast Equine Hospital. Shortly, Catherine will begin retraining as we prepare the mare for her next career!

A granddaughter of Dash For Cash, and standing at 14.3 hh, we wish we could've found this girl in younger years! Yet, despite her age of 16, spending the past decade as a proven broodmare has been a good thing -- her legs are clean and she is totally sound.

Catherine gets along well with horses in a herd environment, and since she raced, we know she's at the very least track broke. Details to come, pending riding evaluation. Catherine comes with her AQHA papers.

Baby Jessica has been ADOPTED!

This coming 2-year-old filly (per her breeder) by graded stakes-winner "Silver Ray" and out of Dash For Cash-granddaughter "Go Little Flurt" (also available for adoption), were rescued horribly emaciated outside of an auction. Baby Jessica was given lots of time to grow at foster Andrea's, and now that she's coming two, it's time to find her own home!

And we did just that!

Today, this little girl is heading to Leona Valley where Rachel and Christina will gradually start her using the training principles of Buck Brannaman. Her pint-size makes her well-suited to a future as a barrel racer, but her flashy trot would have been just as nice to take into the dressage ring!

Happy life, baby! Good things for you!

If you would like to adopt your own rehabilitated rescue through AHR (including Go Little Flurt, Jessica's dam!), please go tohttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/

Update on "Rogue Victory," rescued in January for $85 on behalf of Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue. This handsome Thoroughbred gelding is ready to be adopted as someone's gorgeous prospect, and forever love!
Rogue Victory is filling out nicely and has a shiny February coat on already  This lovely big nine year old gelding by Victory Gallop, who earned $254,668 in a 31 start racing career which included multiple graded stakes efforts, came to us on January 6 2014 after being rescued at auction on our behalf by AHR for $85 after originally being placed into a good post-racing situation by his last racing connections 18 months' earlier. Rogue passed a basic health vet check upon arrival at SCTR, has cleared quarantine, and today he was seen a second time by our vet for a lameness evaluation which he passed with flying colors. Although he was retired due to a tendon injury in 2012, Rogue Victory's only issue at this point appears to be thin soles and he'll be getting shoes and pads per our vet's recommendation and will be moving to our trainer's facility in Yucaipa to be placed for adoption. If you are an intermediate level rider and interested in providing a PERMANENT loving home for Rogue Victory, please complete this applicationhttp://www.sctbrescue.org/uploads/SCTR_ADOPTION_APPLICATION.pdf
and return it to us at sctbrescue@live.com or PO Box 5, Norco, CA 92860
Thank you!

Emaciated "Wesley," a 3-year-old stallion rescued outside Mike's Auction earlier this month, is more than a week into his rehabilitation. Start off at a sad 727 lb (and 15.2 hh), in a month's time he'll go in for another weigh-in at the hospital, and evaluated as to whether he'll be ready for the all-important gelding surgery.

Wesley is a love, and we're very happy to have him as a part of our family.

If you would like to contribute toward Wesley's forthcoming gelding surgery, please call West Coast Equine Hospital to donate at (805) 386-7151

Bucky Adopted!

Guess who also found their forever home?

Bucky!

Follower Maria fell in love with Bucky from the first moment he was posted on our page, at auction, in pain from extremely sore feet, but so sweet of a horse he still couldn't help himself but hobble up for pets and love. Although we were (and are) more than full, seeing this kind face in so much need, we took him home anyway.

After a proper diagnosis and prognosis of what lay ahead for Bucky, Maria offered to be his forever home. Knowing what a fantastic home Maria would be, we happily obliged.

So today, Bucky went home -- his new home.

Mission accomplished

Prior AHR adopter & foster Paula came out to see our little Icelandic Horse today...and left as her new mom.

Yep, Xena's been adopted!!!

Congrats, little pony! And congrats, Paula!

Paula adopted a pretty palomino, "Lily," through us last year, as well as fostered Penelope until we could find sanctuary placement.

Rest assured, Xena's hit the jackpot
