Since then, Silver Beauty sadly lost her twin foals, mid-pregnancy. But, with plenty of time given to heal, today she leaves for training at Monty Roberts.
Thank you, Oakdale Equine Rescue, and have a great first day at "school," Silver Beauty!
"LA Silver Beauty" was one of several racing Arabians AHR found on an auction lot in Central California, several months back. Silver Beauty was pregnant at the time, an added cause for concern. Thankfully, Oakdale Equine Rescue were able & willing to take Silver Beauty, and two of the racing bred babies that came with them, while we found private adopters for the remaining racing Arabians. Since then, Silver Beauty sadly lost her twin foals, mid-pregnancy. But, with plenty of time given to heal, today she leaves for training at Monty Roberts. Thank you, Oakdale Equine Rescue, and have a great first day at "school," Silver Beauty!

We've battened down the hatches, as best we can, for tomorrow's looming storm. Forecasts are estimating the mountain regions, where we're based out of, could receive up to half a foot of rain. Needless to say, we have worked hard the past few days to be as prepared as we possibly can! But now, we wait. Everyone is in sheltered stalls, with waterproof blankets [pictured is Ladybug, tolerating the fashion faux pas we've thrust upon her]. Fingers crossed we don't turn into a flood plain. Same for all our California followers, and their horses! Please try to keep your horses dry and warm tonight! And most of all, stay safe! "Singlestar" is a 6-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, by multiple graded stakes winner Singletary. With only 10 starts under his belt, running at Golden Gate Fields and Los Alamitos, Singlestar never once hit the board. And yet, despite his lack of success, his legs bear witness to the hard toll of racing, anyway. At 15.1 hh, Singlestar was rescued from Mike's Auction in January (alongside Seattle Souvenir and High Z, with help from After The Finish Line), with hopes he could have a future in polo. But instead, a vet exam revealed severe arthritis in his knees. We decided to send Singlestar to West Coast Equine Hospital for proper diagnostics, to decide if the young gelding had any sort of rehabilitatable future, or if the damage was too extensive for life as even a companion horse. Whatever was best for the horse, we would do. To our surprise, although X-rays revealed several old fractures that had since healed with significant arthritis, the main significator of Singlestar's health -- the horse himself -- was excellent: a happy, carefree horse who walked without a lame step, and an overall congenial temperament. Dr. Kemper's verdict was, like Tribal Legend before him, Singlestar could make a lovely horse for light pleasure riding. And surprisingly, even when Singlestar picks up a trot at liberty, it isn't half bad! To help Singlestar on his journey, we started him on two supplements donated to us by NaturVet -- MSM and ArthriEase Gold. Along with that, we had West Coast administer a joint injection, and now we are watching and seeing how this boy thrives. If he continues to, like Tribal Legend before him, we will adopt him out as a "walking trail horse." And yes, Tribal Legend has gone onto excel at his new job! Having the right temperament is critical for rehabilitating horses with limitations into "light riding" careers. So far, so good. He ties well, has excellent ground manners, isn't in the least bit cinchy, and walks into unfamiliar territory like an old pro. Singlestar has what it takes. If interested in meeting Singlestar, and seeng if this sweetheart might fit into your family, please fill out our application athttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/ Singlestar is located in Santa Clarita, CA "High Z," a 13-year-old son of High Brite, also had his first ride today! Trainer Felipe Ruiz put the tall gelding through his paces for his assessment ride, and we were all wowed by his stellar movement, with eye-catching suspension at the trot. Z would make a stellar horse for dressage as much as pleasure, as he spooks at nothing. Our videographer wasn't able to make it today, so you'll just have to settle for a photo for now! But take our word for it, this is a Thoroughbred with flashy Warmblood movement. For being an exhausted campaigner at the auction, underweight with rope burns, he truly has turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Special thanks to After The Finish Line for help making his rescue possible. A few more rides under Amok's belt, and he's turning into an awesome pleasure horse. Today, we'll take Amok on his first trail ride! Amok was one of several horses to have his feet trimmed yesterday. We're proud to announce Amok is a Thoroughbred with sturdy, hardy feet, that do not require shoes! So another bonus for any future adopters We still need to raise $415 to pay for our farrier bill! If you can help, please donate here: http://www.gofundme.com/73swnk It's farrier day at the ranch! Many of our rescues were due for pedicures this week, including finally getting a nice pair of shoes -- with pads -- to protect High Z's tender soles. Now, Z is ready to begin his first evaluation under saddle! Altogether, 7 of our rescues were due for shoes or hoof trims today, which came to a $600 bill. Can you help us? Expenses like these -- proper corrective farrier care -- is crucial for our successful rehabilitations. Rescued horses frequently come to us with significant hoof issues, and as the old saying goes -- "no hoof, no horse." If you can help us raise the needed $600 for today's farrier bill, please donate through our websitehttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/donate.html Catherine, aka Dash For Cash-granddaughter "Go Little Flurt," had her riding assessment today: Catherine is broke! The 14.3 hh cutie understands leg, stops well, and was all-around level headed yet still responsive. She has good ground manners, and ties well. Catherine is sound, healthy, and comes with her AQHA papers. If interested in adopting Catherine/Go Little Flurt, please fill out our application at http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/ Catherine is located in Santa Clarita, CA. Guess who found homes this weekend?! Mack Daddy and Pharaoh! Mack Daddy, aka 8-year-old Thoroughbred "Everynow And Then," was rescued from auction in November, a week after his last race at Los Alamitos. Now called Mack, he's found his forever home as a pleasure/trail horse with Jessica! Pharaoh was a 7-year-old PMU bred Fjord/Belgian cross. Short, stocky, flashy, and a fast learner. This gem of a find is also off to his forever home next week. Thank you to our adopters! Finding great homes for these horses makes it possible to continue rescuing the many horses in need that cross our paths. If interested in adopting a rehabilitated horse through AHR, please take a look at our current adoptables athttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/ Catherine, aka OTQH "Go Little Flurt," is settling in nicely at our ranch, gearing up for her debut riding assessment in the morning. A 16-year-old granddaughter of Dash For Cash, even a nicely bred mare with registration papers in hand, sold at auction to a "nice family" who nearly starved her, and the foal at her side, to death. After surrendering both mom and baby (at a BCS of 2) to AHR, Baby has since grown, and just last week was adopted. Now it's Catherine's turn! Excited to see tomorrow what this 14.3 hh nugget knows under saddle. If interested in adopting this stunning girl, please fill out our application at http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/ Catherine/"Go Little Flurt" is located in Santa Clarita, CA. |
