We're halfway to our $5,000 goal, and the Race For The Rescues marathon is this Sunday!!! Have you joined yet? Or donated?

Check out the list of teams. Out of 103, we are ranked 12th! Another $150 donation and we can make it up to 11th! $520 and we'll make it to 10th! And, at the same time, we'd be that much closer to $5,000 raised for the horses!

What could $5,000 bring us? The ability to save MORE lives at all the countless auctions, livestock auctions, feed lots, horses found emaciated in the most neglected situations possible, throughout our state and more...if they're out there, we try our hardest to find them. But funds are our single biggest limiting factor. So let's raise some funds, and awareness for our cause, at the same time!

And you can still join, too! After a single registration fee, entering the Couch Potato Race from home (or the 5k, 10k, or kids walk!), join the Auction Horses Rescue team at:
http://www.racefortherescues.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=5102
And spread the word!!! Get your friends or family to join, or sponsor you! Or one of our current runners!

If you're too scared to join as a "Couch Potato"...ok, ok... then sponsor one of our "walkers" -- such as, me!
http://www.racefortherescues.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=1815

Hope to see all of you Sunday, October 6! Virtually counts, too!

When there's an animal in need, even if we're on-site with the intention of only scouting for horses to rescue, we'll always try to help the non-equids, too. Peggy Sue was no exception. The supposedly 6-month-old heifer...that we first guessed was 3 months, is instead likely still only 2-months old. The little calf still requires milk! So...we're on baby milk duty again! Not since Mia has the joy of bratty babies demanding their milk been a part of our lives...why not a bovine be the recipient, for a change? Peggy Sue is a love, and long-term 'hospice' rescue "Cardiac", a 23-year-old Thoroughbred saved from slaughter, can be seen joyfully trotting up to the calf whenever she comes near. Peggy Sue, we love you!

This tattooed Thoroughbred mare sells at Lancaster Horse Auction on Monday. Based on the tattoo they posted on the auction's website, this should be "Fire In The Foyer," a 2007 mare by Extra and out of Tango In The Hall (by Wheatly Hall). She last raced March 25, 2013 at Turf Paradise, and has since acquired a recipient mare brand on her hip. She clearly didn't work out as a recipient mare, or a racehorse, as she'll be at auction in Lancaster, CA come Monday.

We hope to network this granddaughter of A.P. Indy to a great home before then, so hopefully there isn't the last minute scramble/or last second "crazy bid" from us (which is how we acquired Romeo and Dashing Lady Bug! Unplanned-for arm raising!)

If you are interested in this mare, please email us at auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

Lancaster Horse Auction is located at 140 E Ave G-4 in Lancaster, CA. Horses start selling no earlier than 5pm the first Monday of the month.

Hip 243 and 244 from Turlock's Cowtown Auction, after spending a week at our ranch, left for their new adoptive home in Temecula today! The two old reining-bred mares ended up at auction, emaciated amd exhausted. Rather than sell to slaughter, prior adopters Summer and Joe made their rescue a possibility, by opening their doors to these sweet old-timers!

Wright Ranch is working with us to locate the two mare's papers and identities, as they were equally upset to hear about their near tragic end. It has been confirmed Hip 243, the little black mare, was a competition reining horse, and Hip 244 is a 25-year-old Doc Bar mare from Texas. Sadly, it becomes increasingly clear to us old broodmares are more often violently disposed of than not... Each time someone opens their arms to hard-luck old timers like this, their rewards are innumerable... And making these happy endings possible will always be a passion of ours.

If you would like to help us rescue more needy souls like these, or sponsor one of our current rescues, our Paypal is auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

"Peggy Sue" became our first Auction Cow Rescue, when she, along with a number of other baby cows, sold at a Lancaster Livestock Auction today. The 3-month-old Holstein calf was barely weaned off her mom, before being culled from the local dairy farm, and dropped off at auction. Peggy Sue will join our ranch, alongside our friend's "movie cow" Daisy Mae. We can't wait til they meet! But, a lengthy quarantine period is ahead of her, and some ample growing time for this tiny baby cow, before that can happen. We're so excited for this little girl's safe landing! What a lucky baby!!!!

Check out that flashy trot!
Our "banner photo" rescue, Eclipse (son of Tribal Rule) was rescued at a BCS of 1, and is now a plump, round gorgeous 16 hh hunk of a Thoroughbred, flashy mover with an open, fluid trot, balanced canter, and honest and careful over fences. Eclipse (race name: "Wild Places") would make a fantastic hunter/jumper or dressage prospect for a confident beginning-intermediate rider in full training, or a more advanced rider looking for a flashy prospect to take under their wing! Located in Santa Clarita, CA

"Tis A Girl," a 20-year- old daughter of Tisab, left for her forever home in Northern California today! Hauler Vicky fit her into their shipping schedule schedule, en route from a Bernie Traurig clinic, so this "Girl" is traveling in style. No more auctions, neglect, or feelings of loss or despair in future...but a fancy new barn, with her very own mom, Kim! Pretty good for an old mare we bid on at auction on a crazy whim, hope and a prayer!

Fantastic blog entry on the rescue of emaciated Thoroughbred mare, "Cymple Rhythm," was posted yesterday on Vicky Burnham's 'Fans Supporting Horse Racing' blog. We can not thank Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue enough for taking thismare on as their latest rescue, after we found her at a Central California auction exactly one week ago, and coordinated her safe landing in SoCal. Teamwork, with trusted rescues and individuals, is key to getting these horses to safety. And yes...I am especially moved by this humble, kind mare, who had effectively given up on life...a single crazy trip up north, was enough to change her life forever. For the better.

Tribal Legend, the 4 yo Tribal Rule/Avenue of the Flags colt rescued two weeks back, is recuperating at our ranch after his gelding surgery and series of joint injections, to address the secondary arthritis in his fractured-but-healed knee. It's challenging to keep the swelling down on a horse only allowed to trot limited amounts but the lengthy walks in the round pen, and in-hand, as well as twice-a-day cold hosing's, seem to be keeping it in-check. With his amiable temperament he is probably the kindest horse we've rescued yet. We're looking forward to starting him under saddle, to see if he's as perfectly acclimated to a future as a "light riding horse" as we suspect and not, (as his past owners were attempting just weeks ago), an all-out galloping racehorse!

If you would like to donate toward Tribal Rule or any of our other rescue's care, our Paypal is auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

If you are interested in adding Tribal Legend to your family as a "light riding" pet, please fill out our application.

This stocky boy is "Musgrove Cat," and we were surprised to find him when we went to 'inspect' Roark today. After Musgrove Cat was turned away from Mike's Auction in April, we knew another rescuer had made arrangements for him to go back to his owner. His original owner has since tried to ready him for racing again, without success. So now, the owner has asked for Musgrove to find a safe landing -- one where he will, hopefully, never find himself at auction again.
As can be seen, Musgrove has a defective left eye, that he has had since birth. He is at least track broke, though his handler says he can be nervous about objects on his left side when riding.
Still, a nicely formed, stocky boy, who otherwise appears healthy and sound.

Musgrove Cat is a 6-year-old OTTB gelding, by Saint Afleet and out of Lady Katy Did (Mt Livermore). Currently located in Redlands, CA

If interested in adopting Musgrove Cat, please fill out our application at http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/adoption-application.html
