AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION:

"Peanut Butter" is a 15 hh, teenaged Quarter Horse mare rescued from the Bench Ranch sale in October. Peanut Butter loves to work, and thrives on daily attention. She rides bareback and has good ground manners. Very social but leery til she knows who you are. Peanut Butter has yet to be assessed on trail, though she can be a bit skittish about things behind her. 100% sound, but for a pleasure home only.

Currently located in Norco, CA.

If interested in adopting Peanut Butter, please fill out our application

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION:

Merry is one of the former “Camp” horses rescued by AHR in September. She is a 15.2 hh Standardbred, in her 20s. No tattoo. What she does have is a lovely, over-stepping walk, the kindest temperament you can ask for, and a joie de vivre that earned her the name, “Merry.” She gets along well with other horses, and is towards the lower end of the pecking order. She is currently barefoot, though she would need shoes to work on pavement or rocky trails. Will stand for hours to be groomed, and is the first to greet you with a hearty nicker when you approach the barn.

Merry is sound but due to her age, is best for light to moderate riding. She is suitable for an advanced beginner on up. The only known reason not to put a beginner on her, at least outside of the arena, is that she has a very forward walk and that may intimidate an absolute beginner. She would be perfect for someone who likes to ride trails at a walk but not poke along. Her walk is invigorating, almost like a gaited horse. Because she is an older horse, she is a little stiff when starting out, but quickly limbers up.

Merry has impeccable ground manners. She has just had her teeth floated and is current on vaccines. Merry has had two months with her foster family, putting on weight and getting back in shape after being rescued from a feed lot. She is ready to find her forever person or family. If her foster didn’t already have three horses, she’d keep her! A true gem of a mare! Located in Shadow Hills, CA.

If interested in adopting Merry, please fill out our application

Princess "Jessakar," now adopted, would like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween!

Less than 13 months ago, this descendent of Thoroughbred royalty found herself at a slaughter auction, underweight, with a matted mane, and painfully sore feet. A year later, she has her own mom! And is now in dressage training at the Paddock Riding Club in Glendale. Can't wait to see her begin showing, in 2014!

Because people on our page chose to harass and attack, and call the woman at all hours, whose horse she was trying to *keep* from going to auction (as we specified in our post, her client owned the horse and was the one planning to send it there), we've had to remove the post entirely. Godspeed to the horse, whichever auction he ends up at.

Keep this in mind, the next time you decide to call someone off of a craigslist ad to yell at them, scream at them, harass them with informative pleas that "your horse will sell to slaughter" (don't worry, everybody already knows), recount the religious mission you feel you're on to save horses courtesy of some dream you had (told in lengthy detail, capable of spanning hours), so on and so forth.

All of this only turns people off. Off. They shut down. They will instead go the much easier route, and take the horse to auction.

If you can't be civil, direct ("I would like your horse"), and polite ("thank you"), and can get it done within two minutes max (preferably shorter!), don't pick up the phone. Otherwise, all you're doing is putting the final nail in the coffin. And dooming that horse to auction, kill buyer, or slaughter.

If you can save the horse posted yesterday in Selma, CA (now removed!), email me privately.

This tattooed Thoroughbred mare sells at Lancaster Horse Auction on Monday. Based on the tattoo they posted on the auction's website, this should be "Fire In The Foyer," a 2007 mare by Extra and out of Tango In The Hall (by Wheatly Hall). She last raced March 25, 2013 at Turf Paradise, and has since acquired a recipient mare brand on her hip. She clearly didn't work out as a recipient mare, or a racehorse, as she'll be at auction in Lancaster, CA come Monday.

We hope to network this granddaughter of A.P. Indy to a great home before then, so hopefully there isn't the last minute scramble/or last second "crazy bid" from us (which is how we acquired Romeo and Dashing Lady Bug! Unplanned-for arm raising!)

If you are interested in this mare, please email us at auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

Lancaster Horse Auction is located at 140 E Ave G-4 in Lancaster, CA. Horses start selling no earlier than 5pm the first Monday of the month.

One unfortunate belief we find ourselves having to contend with from time to time, is the belief our rescue is pulling in large volumes of money to care for our horses.

The sad reality is -- we're not. Much of all the amazing work we've done, has been self-funded. Fundraising even for the exciting things like auctions can be difficult, and it's hopeless for any of the routine expenses we incur (which are sizable -- from hay, feed, farrier, to bedding and stall maintenance, like the huge load of DG we brought in to keep the uncovered half of our stalls dry -- $500 for one load!). And when we continue to insist on only the best, professional level care for our rescues, including the "worthless" companions, that means paying for a tooth float on an as-yet-unadoptable ancient pony like Tony. But he needs it, so it's done. And so, another check is written, and our funds for the next rescue dwindle even more.

But, Tony is chewing so much better! The original float done by the first vet (used by his first rescuer), after his initial rescue, wasn't a particularly thorough job, so we're hopeful this second float will address why we've had such a difficult time getting weight on this aging pony! Turns out he had large amounts of food impacted between his teeth, too, and he did show his first signs of sinus infection two weeks ago -- likely related. Yet another reason why it can be good to get a second opinion, when an issue hasn't been resolved.

So...that was an additional $260 bill for the rescue to pay. Can you help? Our Paypal is auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com, and please mark it for "Tony's vet"!

And thank you Dr. Rathbone of Byerly Vet for coming out!

If you're interested in adopting Tony the Pony, please fill out our application at www.auctionhorsesrescue.com -- Tony is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest pet, ever! We hope he can find his forever person, or family, someday soon. So we can rescue the next horse in need!

"Bluebelle Panee" is another horse in URGENT need of placement.

Bluebelle was one of 15 Thoroughbreds seized from a hoarder/neglect case in Riverside County. Unfortunately, Animal Control is only set up to house the horses, and keep them fed, but not to keep them exercised, nor deal with shoeing needs. Bluebelle is not doing well in this environment and needs out, fast.

Bluebelle needs a Thoroughbred-experienced home where she can get regular exercise, once she has seen a farrier and vet. Stands around 16/16.1 hh. She is unraced, and her pedigree is here:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_&search_bar&h=BLUEBELLE+PANEE&g=5&p=0&f=1&l

Bluebelle is located at Riverside County Animal Control in Riverside, CA.

If interested in adopting Bluebelle, please call Donna Caplan ASAP at 951-905-3011

Clubhouse Rules left West Coast Equine Hospital as well, today, after her late night injury resulting in a bruised bone in her knee she'll need an additional lay-up for. Very frustrating for us, but the risk of keeping - and rehabilitating - horses. With the costs of x-rays, sedation, medications, bandages and stitching her bill came to $550.

Can you help?

We always need help with our vet bills, as we make sure timely treatment of ailments is a priority for us. While in the long term it saves money, in the short term it adds up!

West Coast Equine Hospital is always able to take donations direct for Auction Horses Rescue, by calling their hospital line at (805) 386-7151. Otherwise, we can accept donations via our Paypal at auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com

Legend Express's hooks more resembles fangs!

This is why we have all our rescue horse's teeth checked, regardless of weight. Legend Express came to the livestock auction at a good weight, and yet, there was still a horror show going on inside her mouth, requiring immediate veterinary intervention.

Please do not rescue a horse unless you can provide immediate care, such as this.
