AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION:
Merry is one of the former “Camp” horses rescued by AHR in September. She is a 15.2 hh Standardbred, in her 20s. No tattoo. What she does have is a lovely, over-stepping walk, the kindest temperament you can ask for, and a joie de vivre that earned her the name, “Merry.” She gets along well with other horses, and is towards the lower end of the pecking order. She is currently barefoot, though she would need shoes to work on pavement or rocky trails. Will stand for hours to be groomed, and is the first to greet you with a hearty nicker when you approach the barn.
Merry is sound but due to her age, is best for light to moderate riding. She is suitable for an advanced beginner on up. The only known reason not to put a beginner on her, at least outside of the arena, is that she has a very forward walk and that may intimidate an absolute beginner. She would be perfect for someone who likes to ride trails at a walk but not poke along. Her walk is invigorating, almost like a gaited horse. Because she is an older horse, she is a little stiff when starting out, but quickly limbers up.
Merry has impeccable ground manners. She has just had her teeth floated and is current on vaccines. Merry has had two months with her foster family, putting on weight and getting back in shape after being rescued from a feed lot. She is ready to find her forever person or family. If her foster didn’t already have three horses, she’d keep her! A true gem of a mare! Located in Shadow Hills, CA.
