8 lives rescued today. Even we're a bit astonished we managed to pull it off:
Today, we found three racing Arabian mares, bred by Darley Stud (but no longer owned), at a local auction. One of them, "LA Silver Beauty," was pregnant, visibly in foal, having been bred 6 months back to Egyptian stallion Sid Abihome. She, along with "Zillar," a racing Arab by ZT Ali Baba, (pictured), Zillar's yearling colt (also pictured), "Dash To Cash," Dash To Cash's yearling baby, and a weanling out of the Spanish mare Manera.
Along with that, a hard racing Thoroughbred mare of 60 starts over 7 years, just 6 months off Golden Gate Fields, "Sierra Madam" (KY-bred, by Commendable), showed up at auction in very poor condition.
So...with no time or ability to network other than a few phone calls, all were saved. Babies and skinny OTTB included.
Thank you to Hillorie, Sher, Oakdale Equine Rescue, Sarah Parlier of Equine Racers and the several others that helped us with an hour to spare, get so many so quickly to safety.
Instances like these are always stressful, because there's no time to fundraise. But that doesn't change the fact that these are the situations where the horses need rescue the most - when there is no way to broadcast or make a plea for help.
If you would like to help us in our continued endeavors, to find horses at the brink, please donate
