9 were saved tonight: 7 horses. 1 donkey. 1 llama.
Most of the old dude ranch horses (including the emaciated pony with Cushing's), the old Arabian mare, the 28-year-old Quarter Horse mare, Holy Smoken Midnight, the stallion with the cloudy eye, the jack, and the mini llama. All safe.
This old mare (pictured), it turns out, was brought to auction by the young woman who had her since she was a 9-year-old little girl. Now, the girl is grown, and the mare is old and sick, so she brought her to auction so they "wouldn't have to deal with her dying at their ranch."
So...for $35 purchase price, this mare is our responsibility now. Tomorrow, she will be seen by the local vet, and we will find out this sweet mare's prognosis, if there's any life left in her. Tonight, she enjoys a bucket of Safe Choice. And lots of affectionate petting from us, before it's time to go to bed.
Most of the horses rescued tonight will be available for adoption, with the exception of Holy Smoken Midnight, who was purchased back for her breeder, and the stunted llama, adopted by Liz.
If interested in adopting any of the others rescued tonight, please fill out our application on our website.
And please, we need help with funds! We'll have a few vet bills on our hands, along with transportation from auction, a gelding surgery (or two), and unfortunately, what we suspect will be a euthanasia.
