Brought to auction from a closing down "dude ranch," we rescued him Saturday night

This ratty old pony may be the saddest rescue to come through Auction Horses Rescue -- definitely in the top three. Brought to auction from a closing down "dude ranch," we rescued him Saturday night, along with fellow leftovers from the dude ranch -- an old mare missing an eye and an old gelding missing his bottom teeth.

This ratty old pony has a sad secret beneath his thick coat -- he is all skeleton, nothing more, and so weak his hind legs violently shake from exhaustion. In the midst of today's auction, we made sure this pony arrived safely at his new home, to be a forever pet at St. Bonnie's Sanctuary, part of the Lange Foundation, alongside Popeye and the sad old grey pony from last month's Cowtown Auction. We pray he recovers fully, to be a happy, fat old pony.

The other dude ranch horses are being temporarily housed at Jodi's ranch in Dixon, awaiting adopter's Beth return to welcome them in her very pampered herd.

The old Warmblood x mare, rescued Sunday alongside injured OTTB "Then There Was You," was also sent direct to West Coast Equine Hospital today for a thorough check-up, as we are also gravely concerned for her health. The mare was found at auction this weekend barely able to stand, her hind feet dragging behind her. Perhaps a wobbler, perhaps narcoleptic, perhaps severely sleep-deprived -- a proper veterinary diagnosis is in order. And certainly, the last thing this mare could survive, was on a truck headed to slaughter.
