Today, 3 more horses were saved -- making a running tally of 11 total lives in safekeeping this weekend.

Pictured is "Then There Was You," a gorgeous 2008 mare this evening, after her rescue. A year off the racetrack, with a swiss-cheese of a tendon, the 5 year old mare was found by AHR at yet another auction today. Gorgeous, wearing racing plates, with a hot lumpy tendon....it did not look good. Fortunately, one of her former trainers, Sergio Ledzema, offered to buy the mare back. He was upset about her plight, so for $120, we made that happen. Tonight, she is with Sergio's cousin Armando where her rehab and recovery will begin. The guess is she's been match raced up until recently, and her legs certainly look it.

"Then There Was You" came to auction alongside an older Thoroughbred broodmare, without a tattoo, who could barely stand. Was it extreme exhaustion? Narcolepsy? Wobbler? Unsure, and distressed by her condition, we decided to rescue her, and we plan to get her down to West Coast Equine Hospital tomorrow for a proper diagnosis. What was certain was, we could not leave her behind in her condition, constantly threatening to collapse under herself.

But what was most distressing to find was a racehorse fresh off the racetrack -- "Dux" -- a 2008 gelding by Cayoke (FR). His last work the beginning of September at Golden Gate Fields, he was featured in the Golden Gate Fields Thoroughbred Aftercare's "Thoroughbred Showcase" on October 12, less than one month ago. We contacted Liz Morey who quickly made arrangements to get Dux to safety. Thanks to trainer Steve J. Howard paying bail, tomorrow Dux will head to CANTER to enter their rescue program.

Another day, three more lucky rescues.. This is relentless work.
