Here's "Regal Sal," a 22-year-old Thoroughbred with arthritic knees, when he sold through the auction ring -- tonight.
Not, as his last owner claimed, a horse who had already "peacefully" died in her field...one month ago. Instead, in reality, he was en route to be disposed of at auction.
Many people use such euphemisms -- "died," "humane euthanasia" -- as code for shipping horses to auction, or the feed lot. Along with the typical excuses of "given to a great family home." We've had to rescue several from various riding schools making such claims...including this one.
It's a dark world out there.
But tonight, it's a much brighter one for 13 horses total. Hip 273, "Regal Sal," will be available for adoption shortly through AHR, as will hip 274, registered paint colt "PSR Fairbars Steak." Hip 288, the little white pony, was adopted by frequent foster Travis. ERC was able to take the emaciated palomino for us, and aside from a number of pretty horses of color, the little scared yearling mini, the sad old buckskin pony, and hip 279 ottb mare "Lou's Suzie Que." All will be available for adoption. Follower Helga took the plunge and rescued three needy colts -- always the hardest to get rescued.
Thank you everyone for their help and support. We always need help with donations toward our efforts
