Rescued from a livestock auction on Tuesday, alongside OTTB "Wetaskiwin," was our second donkey rescue for the week... This jenny, her spine protruding with a round, robust belly, looked suspiciously pregnant at auction. Now, tonight, safe at our barn, more signs point to this being a distinct possibility -- as she has begun to bag up.. with signs of wax, and movement in her abdomen..
It's clear this donkey came from serious neglect, before making it to auction. Her feet are so overgrown, she walks on the back of her ankles, shifting her weight from foot to foot trying to alleviate the pain.
It's not just horses, even donkeys routinely find themselves needing help...help that, up until today, never came.
