Riva Ridge-granddaughter "Shanghied," aka Ruby, at 23-years-young, is proof positive there's no reason an older Thoroughbred should ever be underweight. In fact, Ruby's been enrolled in Weight Watchers, since coming back from foster care!

Now, Ruby's onto the next chapter of her life: retirement. Thanks to Equine WellBeing's sanctuary in Arizona, we have been given a wonderful opportunity to retire this regal girl.

To do so, we need to raise funds for Ruby's transport there: $250.

If you can help us reach our goal, please donate through our website: http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/donate.html

Being able to rescue older broodmares like Ruby is an ongoing passion of ours. To be able to find safe retirement and sanctuary homes makes it possible to rescue more of these discarded broodmares, as they enter the slaughter pipeline.

Ruby was part of a large group of old broodmares that came to auction in November, discarded for good. All but one shipped to slaughter. To this day, we mourn having to leave behind the others. But at the same time, we celebrate the life of Ruby, who at 23, still has so much life left to give.
