"Sierra Madam," a Kentucky-bred hopeful....then ended up running 60 starts over 7 years, never once breaking her maiden -- except in a single race on an illegal "bush" track.
Finally, 7 months after her last race at Golden Gate Fields, Sierra was dropped off at auction. Underweight, neglected, fatigued. Intended for the slaughter buyer.
Instead, we rescued her.
Sierra had a full exam at West Coast Equine Hospital today, then was cleared to go to her foster family, where she can spend some time enjoying the simple, essential pleasures -- eating and relaxing. Finally, a rest. No longer an unrelenting race schedule, nor fighting for food.
Rest up, and the perked ear, bright eye, and proud head set of a horse with their dignity returned will follow. Welcome to your new life, kid.
