Tribal Legend

"Tribal Legend" -- remember him? He's the 4-year-old colt rescued just weeks off Del Mar racetrack with two slab fractures to his knee, outside Mike's Auction in September. For $100, we kept him from being handed to the kill buyer.

Now, this 4-year-old colt has made the transition to gelding, and with injections in his compromised knee, he's started work under saddle. Like Clubhouse Rules, this boy is -- from the get-go -- almost naturally broke! Although he will always "just" be a light riding horse -- or, as we prefer to call him, a "walking trail horse" -- his other gaits have remarkably improved, since the joint injections. In time, he may be able to be ridden lightly at a trot and canter!

For now, we're taking him on gentle rides around our ranch, working on his responsiveness to leg pressure and ensuring "bomb-proof-ness". Pretty remarkable temperament for a 4-year-old Thoroughbred just two and a half months off the racetrack. What a lucky boy you are!
