"Wesley" was an emaciated 3 yo stallion rescued outside of Mike's Auction, last month. Turned away due to his skeletal condition, with the aid of auction staff, we were able to transport Wesley straight to the hospital that same night.
Here Wesley is, just today -- his increasingly rounded out hip line, 3 and a half weeks since rescue!
By next month, we hope to be able to proceed with Wesley's gelding surgery!
Wesley is one of the many emaciated horses we have successfully rehabilitated, from start to finish. Frequent feedings of alfalfa hay and pellets, and plenty of clean water, is all that's needed for now. "Refeeding syndrome" is a watchful concern with these types of extreme rehabilitations, which can surface with a number of symptoms, including laminitis and founder. Something we consider ourselves equal parts fortunate, as much as a credit to our expertise in these matters, in our solid record of success in, so far, yet another textbook-like ascent back to health!
