Dashing Lady Bug is a 17-year-old OTQH, in good health, but requires front shoes. If interested in adopting her, please fill out our application
"Dashing Lady Bug," one of our October rescues from Mike's Auction is more than ready for her first riding assessment...she is feeling great! As soon as we solve some issues with the footing in our arena (new footing laid down too deep, making it unsafe for a horse's tendons and joints), Lady Bug will go for her first, gentle, assessment ride.

Boston Baked Bean and Sterling's Stormy travel update:
Everything's proceeding as planned! BBB will arrive in Kentucky this evening, and both have been model travellers. No more racing for BBB, he'll be much better suited as an OTTB The private rescuer that took Sterling's Stormy full Chincoteague daughter from auction, the same night we rescued Stormy, is having financial troubles and cannot continue her commitment to this 12-year-old, unbroke pony mare. She is by Sterling's Stormy, and out of his half sister Raspberry Girl, making her full Chincoteague Pony. Unfortunately, as was known the day she was rescued from auction, she was owned by a hoarder since birth, so she is only halter broke and requires an experienced handler to break her to ride. At 14 hh, she is sound and a beautiful mover. But scared, and requires an understanding, knowledgeable hand. We're hopeful to find the appropriate rescue or rescuer that can "take the reins" and insure this mare is given a proper start in life. Not prematurely euthanized, not sent to Animal Control to be adopted out to god knows who. But properly rehabilitated and retrained, so she can be rehomed and given a chance at a wonderful, happy life. We are not set up to take unbroke horses, and so would only be able to take her ourselves if someone could sponsor three months of professional training with a gentle horse breaker. Because of this, we hope to find a rescuer capable of taking on this challenge -- and commitment -- themselves. We are networking this mare as a courtesy. "Peanut Butter," one of the four horses we helped rescue from the Bench Ranch dispersal, is doing wonderfully at Kelly's ranch. Kelly will rehab her and offer her up for adoption...and we will be happy to help network her, when that time comes. We're keeping the caretaker from the ranch in the loop on the horses he spent the past decade caring for so deeply. It's awful to lose your home and your closest friends all at once. The least we could do was ensure they went to good homes. Updates on Justy and Queenie soon! "Yucca Valley 6" Update: After such a prolonged period of intense abuse and neglect, all the horses were sure to need some vet care, but the Thoroughbred gelding with the "abscess" in his leg (rumored to be from a dog bite after he was turned out in a pen with cattle), AKA Diesel, was clearly needing serious vetting. With Sophia in the hospital at the same time, we were grateful Sherry W. and Charlene S. of Yucca Valley were able to be his guardians. Unfortunately, what was found by the vet proved to be even worse than what we feared -- Diesel has severe deterioration of his coffin bones, severe rotation to the point that one more founder and his hoof will slough off, and severe navicular degeneration to top it off. This horse has been in an emaciated condition for many months, turned out with cattle, attacked by dogs, ridden and galloped hard for many miles in this condition...it's bad. The rest of the horses are, mostly, doing well. Tiz Too is back with her breeder, Kathy is taking fantastic care of Last Caper, Teri Crutchfield's rescue is rehabilitating the Quarter Horse mare, and Sue already found a great family home for the little Mustang mare. However, we made the mistake of placing the emaciated Fox Trotter mare based on a glowing rescue referral. Unfortunately, this person seems more intent on trashing our rescue than with the horse's welfare, and we are currently concerned about the mare's condition. The authorities have been alerted, and we pray she receives the care she needs. But the only one, sadly, without any hope left is Diesel. Come tomorrow, Diesel will be euthanized, and saved from the unsalvageable agony he is going through. Here's one of our slaughter truck rescues, Hip 259 from last week's auction, AKA "Lacy." The older Quarab mare sold to the slaughter buyer Saturday night for $210. We purchased her off the truck later that night, with the help of Lori, and she's now rehabbing alongside Teddy at foster Jodi's ranch in Northern California. Today is vet day! Lacy and Teddy both need their teeth and shots done, can you help? Teeth will cost $300 for both horses ($150 each), and another $200 for both to be fully vaccinated. That's a $500 vet charge for one day! This is why we try to be careful with how many horses we take on at one time. Any rescued horse will need vet care, to some degree, and it all adds up! Please help us pay today's visit, so we can rescue more! If you would like to sponsor Teddy and Lacy's vet visit, please donate via Paypal to auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com and please mark whether you would like it to go to Teddy or Lacy! Okay, get ready for an awww moment. This is Sterling's Stormy as a weanling in 1987. Waiting on a confirmation on the year, meaning that he is 26 or a bit more. I was able to email today with his original breeder as well as his first owner. He was sold to someone else in 1998, so working on that too as his papers were never transferred. I also found out that his Championships in the US and Canada were thru the Pinto Horse Association. How neat is that? This emaciated old horse, a grade gelding, needs urgent rescue. Can anyone help? Man "rescued" him from someone else who wasn't feeding it, now wants $100. Said to have been a trail horse. Seems very kind. Located in San Bernardino, CA.
