Keep dry, everyone.
"Romeo" is looking handsome as can be, even in this wet weather! We have to keep him moving so as to keep the swelling down after his gelding surgery, but want to remind everyone -- horses need shelter with a dry (ideally, soft) place to lie down at night! Bedding only costs a little extra, and putting up a shelter costs a few hundred dollars. Make the investment, for your horse's well-being. At the least, provide them the option.
Keep dry, everyone.

Sterling 's Stormy update from Chincoteague Pony Rescue's We had a great second day with Sterling's Stormy here at the rescue. He has had a few visitors to welcome him and ate up the attention. He spent a few more hours out in the round pen and then I took him for a walk by the pond to eat tall grass. He just loved that !! I also walked him down our woods path to see the other ponies. He enjoyed visiting with them all. He is in love with Equine Senior and got a fresh apples compliments of our friend Wayne. He is back in his stall for the night and I will put him out in the two acre stallion lot tomorrow to really stretch his legs. I am still amazed at how well he traveled with such a long distance haul. He is adjusting so quickly that you would think he has been here all his life. Just what I like to see. Warren's Doogood is thriving with her new foster, Allison of Thousand Oaks. Doogood -- now named "Sweetie" (or as Allison's 3-year-old daughter prefers to call her, Princess FuFu) -- has two more weeks left of antibiotic therapy for what was suspected to be an infection into her coffin bone. She's still taking some sore steps, though much improved. At the end of her antibiotics, the vets from West Coast Equine will come out to further assess her progress. At 7-years-old, we're pulling for this young mare to come out of this, totally sound! Warren's Doogood was rescued off the meat buyer's truck in August, along with older broodmare Tell Me Why. We're currently seeking a retirement home for Tell Me Why, along with her best friend Just Sophie, so if you're seeking some gorgeous pasture puffs -- we've got 'em! As for Doogood, we're still pulling for her to have a rideable future This little Arabian mare was rescued last weekend from going somewhere bad.. And from obvious starvation.. After a week of good food and attention, she is "jumping for joy"! Thank you Jodi Tuft and Beth Conti for being her angels. "OMA Constance" is recovering wonderfully at foster Jodi's in Dixon, along with Teddy, Lacy, and the 2 year old Quarter Horse mare...all AHR auction rescues! Constance will be up for adoption, eventually, through Beth. Teddy and Lacy are available for adoption through AHR. And the 2 yo Quarter Horse filly is awaiting new mom Lori to come home from Germany! This "2-year-old pony" resembles more a stunted yearling. He came to this trader with the emaciated mare we just posted. It appears more likely this is her baby, albeit stunted. Colt. 13 hh tops. Shy of people, though owner says he is halter broke and has worked him in the round pen. Also says "It would be a shame for him to go straight to slaughter." On that, we agree. Located in Rosamond, CA. Owner wants $200. Needs urgent rescue. While our hauler is en route to deliver the emaciated grade gelding to Falconridge in San Diego, we found two more emaciated horses in urgent need of rescue. These are located in Rosamond, CA: This older teenaged grade QH mare came to this trader with a "pony" (looks like her stunted baby). Trader knows no history because prior owner spoke no English. This mare seems sweet and inquisitive. Needs hoof trim, likely teeth done, along with food! She's being fed now, but low quality hay and living without shelter. Needs rescue. Owner will take $200. If interested in rescuing this mare, and you are an approved adopter or rescue partner, please email us It's official! After "Auction Piggie Rescue," "Auction Baby Cow Rescue," and a heap load of "Auction Donkey Rescue," it's about time we branch out into the exotics: Auction Alpaca Rescue. This sweet little thang, a female alpaca of undetermined age (because we know nothing about alpacas), sold at a livestock auction this week...and for $105, this over-heated, hairy creature was ours. Thank you to Liz for adopting her, and Michelle getting her home today. Up next: Auction Chicken Rescue. "Romeo" is adapting well to his new life as a gelding! The 3-year-old Egyptian Arabian is going through the initial stages of swelling after gelding surgery, but so far, so good. And he's learning how to lunge like a pro! Speaking of unbroke horses...we're fairly certain Romeo is a blank slate, so we hope to adopt him out as an unbroke prospect (100% sound!) or will be gearing up for a "get Romeo into professional training" drive. If interested in adopting Romeo, please fill out our application atwww.auctionhorsesrescue.com Romeo is located in Santa Clarita, CA. From https://www.facebook.com/pages/Chincoteague-Pony-Rescue/231970770184008 HE MADE IT !! Sterling's Stormy made it cross country and is safe and sound at the rescue. He is happily munching on hay in the round pen for now. He is in good spirits for just making a 3,200 mile trip from California to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A HUGE thank you to Megan and Auction Horses Rescue for alerting us to Stormy's needs and fundraising to get him from West Coast to East Coast. It amazes me that one little pony has touched the hearts of so many in such a short time. A sincere "Thank You" to all who donated to help him. More photo's and video's to come. |
