"Bear," the 2-year-old German Shepherd, will begin retraining for a new career. An exciting one -- if he passes all his tests!
In other news, the emaciated stallion is recovering well at West Coast Equine Hospital! Updated pix to come soon.
Yesterday, the day after Mike's Auction, this allegedly "aggressive" German Shepherd was rescued from Baldwin Park Animal Control. His owners brought him there making claims of his aggressiveness, making him a "rescue only" pull. We're happy to report that, in reality, he is a happy, playful and stable boy. Just a great GSD in every way. "Bear," the 2-year-old German Shepherd, will begin retraining for a new career. An exciting one -- if he passes all his tests! In other news, the emaciated stallion is recovering well at West Coast Equine Hospital! Updated pix to come soon.

IN NEED OF RESCUE: The horse trader who purchased Hip 566 last night, aka 2000 Canadian Thoroughbred gelding "Super Dream," is willing to sell him, after the fact. Super Dream has passed through prior auctions, and is said to be a good riding horse on trail, and stands somewhere around 16.2 hh. If interested in rescuing Super Dream, please email us That magic moment when a horse is saved... This was Hip 583's fated moment, when for $280, this lame 23-year-old racing Quarter Horse was destined to come home with us. After the fact, we found out he was indeed an ex-racehorse -- "Old Smoky Touch," by Sea Otter, who raced just a handful of times at Los Alamitos, back in 1993. 21-years later, this elderly gentleman nearly found himself on a one-way trip to slaughter. A much more recent Los Alamitos alum was also saved -- Hip 602 -- "Blaze Zing," was rescued for Sarah Parlier's rescue Equine Racers. The 5- year-old gelding had last raced less than 4-months ago, and had already fallen into the hand of match racers. Hip 587, 18-year-old Thoroughbred gelding "Quaint Notion," was recognized on our page -- as a pony horse who had been taken straight from the racetrack to auction earlier that day... a representative showed up, to secure his safe return. Lucky boy! We were also able to save Hip 584, the "pony" who turned out to be an Icelandic Horse, in a very unlikely setting! And Hip 582, a very geriatric Thoroughbred broodmare -- our favorite type of save -- who after many seasons of bearing babies, still wore a sagging hanging belly, full teats, and freshly chewed "foal tail." The most stunning save was when follower Connie called us in tears, recognizing our photos of Hip 565 as her beloved 20-year-old paint gelding "Rainbow's Copper Doc," who she had rehomed with a no auction contract. Nevertheless, there he was at auction. We're happy to report Connie and "Rocky," tonight, are reunited again. And the emaciated stallion is settled in for the night at West Coast Equine Hospital! He was a good traveler, and despite his low body weight, was happy to begin eating as soon as he stepped off the trailer. Thank you to hauler Connie N. for the last minute transport to safety. If anyone would like to donate to the emaciated stallion's care, donations can be made direct to the hospital at (805) 386-7151. Another lucky group of very fortunate souls. Tomorrow is a brighter day, for all 7 horses! IN NEED OF RESCUE: "Josie's Dream" is a 2009 Thoroughbred mare by Vronsky (by Danzig) and out of Clear As Daylight (by Cryptoclearance). Josie's second dam, Tropical Account, is also the dam of prior AHR rescues "Mumu Mamoon" and "Bucks A Smoken." Josie ran once at Santa Anita, in April 2012. By December 2013, a year and a half later, she was found wandering the riverbed near the shelter. Her legs appear clean, as confirmed by the equine vet who recently looked at her at the shelter. Stands somewhere around 16 hh. Seems sweet and personable. Nothing else is known about her. http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Results.cfm?&refno=8590123®istry=T "Tizzy" is a darling, 7 yr old 15 hh broke Quarter Horse mare. She is a dream to ride. Calm, kind and not spooky. Trailer, ties and stands just fine for the farrier. Sound and UTD with shots, worming, teeth and feet. She is broke and should be fine for an advanced beginner. Here's video of Tizzy under saddle!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNRyw3pjbw8 Another beauty saved this weekend was this 17 hh racing Quarter Horse, found by AHR at a Central California auction, scared and dribbling urine. For $125, he was saved, and transported to our ranch, before heading to his new adoptive home with Valerie and her son Chris. Before heading onto his new home, we conquered one more challenge -- Who was this handsome boy? After a few hours of staring at his faded tattoo -- it was deciphered. This was 2005 racing Quarter Horse "Hawkinsons Alibi," sired by multiple graded stakes winner Hawkinson, and a grandson of First Down Dash. We're excited and hopeful for yet another lucky horse saved. AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: "Jessica" is a coming 2-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse, rescued back in 2012 as an emaciated 6-month-old filly, with dam "Go Little Flurt" by her side. They had originally sold at auction to a "private buyer," then returned a few months back, as walking skeletons. Thanks to foster Andrea, we were able to rescue them out of the "auction circuit," once and for all. Jessica is out of Dash For Cash mare "Go Little Flurt," and is by the stakes-winning Thoroughbred stallion "Silver Ray," although she is unregistered. Absolutely amazing breeding in this little girl! She is quite little still, standing in the 13 hh range. Jessica is halter broke only at this time, and is ready to begin groundwork. Very sweet, personable and typey, at that! If interested in adopting Jessica, please fill out our application athttp://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/ Jessica is located in Rosamond, CA. Mr. Buckminster had a thorough exam today at West Coast Equine Hospital, with Dr. Kemper reporting good news! Though as of this morning he had bounding pulses in both front feet, there were no other signs of laminitis. On X-ray, even his navicular bone -- an area particularly problem-prone for Quarter Horses -- looked good! At this stage, Dr. Kemper believes the extreme soreness in his feet is due to severe thrush. Bucky will spend the next few days at the hospital for observation, as they begin work on bringing his long feet -- and thrush -- into a more stable state. Our concern at this stage is that laminitis doesn't begin to set in, which is still a concerning possibility. If you would like to sponsor Bucky's care at the hospital, donations can be called in directly to West Coast Equine Hospital at (805) 386-7151 Or, donations can be sent through our website,http://www.auctionhorsesrescue.com/donate.html Bucky (Buckminster?) is settled in for the night at the hospital, on some plush shavings, bute, with a full plate of food in front of him. Good news is it's confirmed there's no pulses in his feet, but his increased lameness even on bute was enough to worry us about waiting for tomorrow's appointments, in an uncontrolled field setting. Rotation for a foundering horse can set in fast, and that isn't the time to arrange transport. By acting ahead of major incidents, we're able to ensure our continued record of maximum health for our rescues. For now, we've done all that we can. And all fingers crossed! We nixed our original plans to wait for the farrier and vet tomorrow, to instead get our buckskin to West Coast Equine Hospital for prompt, expert treatment and diagnosis of his feet. Rather than risk his condition worsen, and haul a compromised horse, "Bucky" is en route now. Fingers crossed we receive a positive prognosis for this young guy. |
