Would anyone be up for adopting a sweet 6 month old puppy? Female, not spayed. Sweet. Scared of men. Our email is auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com
On our way to West Coast Equine Hospital now with both her, and the emaciated horse.
The emaciated horse is loaded up, but we wound up taking a terrified German Shepherd puppy with us at the same time. $100 to ransom her out of the backyard...tied up, alone, cowering in fear. We made it... And at 16.1 hh, he weighs only 760 lbs. 400 lb underweight. Horses like this are some of the most upsetting parts about horse rescue. To add to it, the emaciated puppy we had to bribe out of another neighbor's hands on the way out.. Some parts of this state resemble another world entirely, and the conditions the animals live in equal that of the third world. Our latest rescue is checked in for the night at West Coast Equine Hospital, with a very low temperature. Re-feeding of frequent small servings of alfalfa hay has begun, based on the UC Davis protocols. A thorough check-up by Dr. Kemper in the morning. Fingers crossed we don't have a "double crypt" stallion on our hands.. Or any other serious complications. His owners claim this was their "dancing horse." His days of dancing are behind him. If you can help us with funds to rescue and rehabilitate this emaciated horse, please donate through our websitewww.auctionhorsesrescue.com or direct to the hospital at (805) 386-7151 And we are still seeking a home for the emaciated German Shepherd puppy we rescued on our way out. Two lucky souls saved today. IN NEED OF URGENT RESCUE: This 5-10 year old Thoroughbred, no tattoo, is starving, severely emaciated, in one of the worst, most derelict parts of San Bernardino. Owner insists horse is a stallion, though no sign of his "huevos".. Owner insists he got her son's paint mare pregnant, though hard to tell as paint mare is also underweight but not emaciated like this poor guy. Very tired, very sweet. We would like to rescue him, but need funds to do so. Bail will be the cheapest part - $50. But what will make or break whether we can rescue him are the expenses to rehabilitate. We need sponsors. Donations. His teeth are painfully sharp, and we may possibly have a very expensive gelding surgery, if he is a double cryptorchid, as we suspect. Re-feeding an emaciated horse like this will also be expensive -- top grade alfalfa hay, alfalfa pellets, and once he's stabilized, beet pulp and Safe Choice will be needed. And then there's the neglected feet, requiring long term rehabilitative farriery care. Can you help??? Our Paypal is auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com or donations can be sent through our website,www.auctionhorsesrescue.com Also, donations can be called direct to our hospital West Coast Equine (805) 386-7151 as we will not take him home til we are sure he is healthy and stable. Monthly sponsors also sought while we get him back to health. Feed will be $250/month. Hoping we can pull this off and get this horse to safety ASAP. This is a horse giving up on life. We want to give him his hope back! "Cool Shades" is a 23-year-old Thoroughbred who resembles a Quarter Horse in personality and appearance. In fact, she was used much of her life to produce Appendix Quarter Horse foals! Rescued off the feed lot, severely emaciated, after her prior owner "forgot to feed her," she's spent the past few months being rehabilitated. Now all better, Cool Shades has turned out to be an excellent kids horse! Cool Shades would be great for an adult or child wanting a gentle trail or pleasure horse. Not for heavy riding. This easy going horse is also great with others of her species, so would also work as a companion. But this is a gem of a child's horse! Located in Atascadero, CA. "Just Sophie" and "Tell Me Why," two companion-sound Thoroughbred mares we rescued from the slaughter buyer earlier this year, finally found their forever home! The two girls, who are the bestest of friends, left yesterday for Oakdale. We're very excited for these two neediest of all rescues -- the old brown mares overlooked by everyone -- including the rescuers. It was a long road to find them homes, but they deserved it, as much as any riding horse. At Cowtown Auction on Saturday, almost every horse that sold to slaughter was old, nondescript and brown, like these two. Not paint, not buckskin, not roan. And certainly not a mini. Just the plain brown mares. Now, with Just Sophie and Tell Me Why placed, onwards with our mission -- to rescue the horses in most serious need. Though we're happy to find good homes for the minis and the flashy roans, paints, buckskins -- horses like Tell Me Why and Just Sophie are our real passion. We still have a number of companions needing homes -- please email us at auctionhorsesrescue@gmail.com if you would like to open your home to Tony the Pony, Penelope, Luna, Cool Shades, Giovanna, Lucy, Dutch, Charlie, or Blake. We have companions of all shapes and sizes -- open your home and heart to a loveable, grateful, truly needy equine today! And thank you Tara, most of all, for adopting Sophie and Tell Me Why! Here's "Regal Sal," a 22-year-old Thoroughbred with arthritic knees, when he sold through the auction ring -- tonight. Not, as his last owner claimed, a horse who had already "peacefully" died in her field...one month ago. Instead, in reality, he was en route to be disposed of at auction. Many people use such euphemisms -- "died," "humane euthanasia" -- as code for shipping horses to auction, or the feed lot. Along with the typical excuses of "given to a great family home." We've had to rescue several from various riding schools making such claims...including this one. It's a dark world out there. But tonight, it's a much brighter one for 13 horses total. Hip 273, "Regal Sal," will be available for adoption shortly through AHR, as will hip 274, registered paint colt "PSR Fairbars Steak." Hip 288, the little white pony, was adopted by frequent foster Travis. ERC was able to take the emaciated palomino for us, and aside from a number of pretty horses of color, the little scared yearling mini, the sad old buckskin pony, and hip 279 ottb mare "Lou's Suzie Que." All will be available for adoption. Follower Helga took the plunge and rescued three needy colts -- always the hardest to get rescued. Thank you everyone for their help and support. We always need help with donations toward our efforts Last night, AHR rescued "Regal Sal" from the auction lot in Turlock, CA. After fellow rescuer Sarah, recognized this 22-year-old Thoroughbred through the posts on our page, we were given the full details concerning where he had been, and how he had ended at auction. This gentlemanly old horse had been placed with a private person once he was no longer capable of walking the mountainous trails his original owner was doing with him. The person who subsequently adopted him, claimed he would be used as a children's lesson horse. But, after she had been in possession of Regal Sal for less than six months, this same person concocted a story to tell before he was dumped at auction. Here's an excerpt from her email. It is a feast of deceit, sent Aug 19 of this year: "I thought I would contact you and let you know some sad news. I don't know if I should contact the previous owner or not of Pilot [Regal Sal], so will leave that up to you. But this morning when the guys went out to feed Pilot he had passed away. We had the vet out to look him over real quick and I was called too. He passed away in his sleep. Laid down and never got back up. No struggle of any kind. He had a wonderful life and was very well cared for. Everyone misses him and it's very sad but we are happy to know he wasn't in any pain and didn't struggle but passed in his sleep. ... [He] adored the little girls at summer camp this summer." Last night, three months after that e-mail was sent, we found Regal Sal standing in a pen at auction. Clearly the story of Regal Sal's death had been greatly exaggerated! Identified by his tattoo and markings, this old man was most certainly in danger of purchase by the local kill buyer due to his advanced age and arthritic knees but there he was, listed as nameless "Hip 273." Luckily for Regal Sal, we rarely miss an auction and our Facebook followers are right there with us. Once he was posted and we were contacted by Sarah, we quickly made plans to get Regal Sal to safety and that is where he is today. Why? Why the lies? A work of fiction about a horse dying months ago, but instead was brought direct to auction from a "lesson program" in the exact area where this trainer had kept Regal Sal aka "Pilot". Researching this fable-telling individual, we've discovered she goes by a number of aliases, and has betrayed the trust of many with their beloved horses. So, as a public service, especially as this individual is known to frequent the many Thoroughbred listings throughout this state, we are posting her name(s): Katie Biear Kaitlyn Biear Kay Biear Catriona Bier And has operated under a host of hunter/jumper training barn names: Derby Stride Farms Devonshire Farms Signature Farms Ms. Biear/Bier has operated from Oregon to Northern California. If you are looking to re-home a Thoroughbred and this "woman's" name comes up, we advise you to take your horse and do not walk, GALLOP away. And Regal Sal....congratulations. You are truly a lucky man, still very much alive with what we hope will be many years of great care and love ahead of you.
"Teddy" is a 15.2 hh, 7-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse rescued from auction. The horse Teddy came to auction with wound up selling to the kill buyer (we were outbid), but we were able to rescue this sweet boy. Teddy has proved to be very broke, very level-headed, and very sound, to boot! Although he came to us with very sharp teeth (which has since been addressed), and an injured eye, Teddy is all healed and ready to be rehomed. Teddy is good for a beginner rider (with instruction), on up. Good for trail or arena riding and can be ridden English or Western. Quiet, not spooky, and he's easy to get along with. And he has great feet! Currently located in Dixon, CA. |
